In the last two weeks, I have experienced many exciting things. In the area of environment and nutrition, everything was there, from environmental workshops to cooking classes and family celebrations.

In den letzten zwei Wochen habe ich eine Menge spannender Dinge erlebt. Im Themengebiet Umwelt und Ernährung war von Umwelt-Workshops bis hin zu Kochkursen und Familienfeiern alles dabei.
We offered a workshop about the environment with a focus on plastic waste three days a week, which I will report on in a separate blog post.
Wir baten an drei Tagen die Woche einen Workshop zum Thema Umwelt mit Fokus auf Plastikmüll an, über den ich noch in einem separaten Blogeintrag berichten werde.
Now that the school holidays are starting, we organized a meeting with the mothers to discuss the new schedule, wishes, and suggestions. This is particularly important at Casa Búho so we can work together in the best way possible and also bring in the wishes of the children and parents. Additionally, we all pitched in to get the library in shape, since it’s not always manageable alone or with just two people.
Da jetzt die Ferien beginnen, haben wir ein Treffen mit den Müttern organisiert, bei dem der neue Zeitplan, Wünsche und Anregungen besprochen wurden. Dies ist in Casa Búho besonders wichtig, um bestmöglich zusammenarbeiten zu können und auch die Wünsche der Kinder und Eltern einbringen zu können. Zusätzlich haben wir gemeinsam die Bibliothek auf Vordermann gebracht, da dies alleine und auch zu zweit nicht immer stemmbar ist.
The two weeks will be based on a compilation of books on the topic of healthy eating, and we will also use videos and informational texts to design the Hora de Cuento.
Die beiden Wochen wir anhand einer Zusammenstellung aus Büchern passend zum Thema gesunde Ernährung und nutzen darüber hinaus Videos sowie Informationstexte zur Gestaltung der Hora de Cuento.
Above all, the older Chiquiturris explored factors of healthy eating, made a food pyramid, and exchanged information about the nutrients in our food.
Vor allem die größeren Chiquiturris beschäftigten sich mit Faktoren gesunder Ernährung, bastelten eine Ernährungspyramide und tauschen sich über Nährstoffe unserer Nahrung aus.
This week, 15 Chiquiturris with their mothers, the babies read attentively. The little ones were very affectionate, and with sayings like “Te gusta mucho” and “Me encanta leer contigo,” I realized for the first time that my time here is coming to an end and that I am going to miss the children and the work here very much. It is so nice to see how grateful the children are and how much they appreciate your support for the project.
Mit den Babys wurde diese Woche, obwohl 15 Chiquiturris mit ihren Müttern da waren aufmerksam gelesen. Die Kleinen waren ganz verkuschelt und bei Sprüchen wie „Te gusta mucho” und „Me encanta leer contigo” wurde mir das erste Mal bewusst, dass meine Zeit hier langsam zu Ende geht und ich die Kinder und die Arbeit hier ganz schön vermissen werde. Es ist einfach so schön zu sehen, wie dankbar die Kinder sind und wie sehr gewertschätzt wird, dass man das Projekt unterstützt.
On Wednesday, we held our first cooking class at Casa Búho. Everyone made their own chef’s hat with the Casa Búho logo, and we exchanged tips and tricks for cooking. We ended up making stuffed tomatoes and cinnamon cookies. The kids were first-class little chefs!
Am Mittwoch haben wir unseren ersten Kochkurs in Casa Búho veranstaltet. Jeder hat eine eigene Kochmütze mit dem Casa Búho Logo gebastelt und wir haben Tipps und Tricks zum Kochen ausgetauscht. Am Ende haben wir gefüllte Tomaten und Zimtkekse zubereitet. Die Kinder waren kleine Spitzenköche!
On Thursday afternoon, we read a great book with the Peque Búhos, where you use glasses that make orange things invisible, and as a result, the images change. In the context of the environment and recycling, we used old bottles as funnels and made little play-dough balls with balloons to relieve stress or for when we’re angry. It was so much fun.
Am Donnerstag Nachmittag haben wir mit den Peque Búhos ein tolles Buch gelesen, bei dem man eine Brille nutzt, mit der man orange Sachen nicht mehr sehen kann und sich dadurch die Bilder verändern. Wir haben im Kontext Umwelt und Recycling alte Flaschen als Trichter genutzt und mit Luftballons kleine Knetkugeln gegen Stress oder wenn man mal sauer ist gebastelt. Es war super lustig.
On Friday, we made toothbrush cups from bottles with the children in San Isidro, setting a good example of reusing plastic waste. The results turned out great, and at the same time, the toothbrush cup decorated the bathroom at home :)
Then, in the afternoon, we had the big dress rehearsal for the play and the dance that we performed at the family celebration on Saturday.
Am Freitag haben wir mit den Kindern aus San Isidro kleine Zahnputzbecher aus Flaschen gebastelt und sind so mit einem guten Beispiel der Wiederverwendung von Plastikmüll vorangegangen. Die Ergebnisse sahen klasse aus und gleichzeitig dekoriert der Zahnputzbecher das Badezimmer zuhause :) Nachmittags hatten wir dann die große Generalprobe des Theaterstücks und des Tanzes, die wir auf der Familienfeier am Samstag aufführten.
The family celebration was a lot of fun. Many children were there and had brought their families with them. Karolyn and Juan from the Big Búhos hosted the program with confidence and wit and organized the afternoon’s games. Whether it was a race, painting the Casa Búho owl against the clock, dancing together, or eating cake, everyone had a great time laughing. After receiving wonderful farewell words from Karolyn, which completely surprised me, I was able to regain my strength at the rich buffet of delicacies that everyone had brought. It was a great day for all of us.
Die Familienfeier war ein riesen Spaß. Viele Kinder waren da und hatten ihre Familien mitgebracht. Karolyn und Juan von den Big Búhos moderierten souverän und mit Witz durch das Programm und haben Spiele für den Nachmittag organisiert. Egal ob Wettlauf, Malen der Casa Búho Eule auf Zeit, gemeinsam tanzen oder Torte essen, alle hatten sichtlich zu lachen. Nachdem ich von Karolyn wunderschöne Worte zum vorläufigen Abschied bekommen habe, die mich komplett überrascht und fassungslos gemacht haben, konnte ich mich an dem reichhaltigen Buffet von Leckereien die alle mitgebracht haben wieder stärken. Es war ein toller Tag für uns alle.
The second week started with the older kids. We recycled pages from old books and made a bowl with homemade paste from flour and water. The Baby Búhos talked about sea animals and made a little turtle together.
Die zweite Woche startete mit den Großen. Wir haben alte Buchseiten recycelt und eine Schüssel mit selbstgemachtem Kleister aus Mehl und Wasser gebastelt. Die Baby Búhos haben über Tiere im Meer gesprochen und gemeinsam eine kleine Schildkröte gebastelt.
On Thursday, we did crafts with the little Búhos as a team project with all the Chiquiturris and their moms. The final result was an owl made from bottle caps in the spirit of recycling. A lovely decoration for Casa Búho.
Am Donnerstag machten wir mit den kleinen Búhos eine Bastelarbeit in Teamwork mit allen Chiquiturris und ihren Mamis gemeinsam. Das Endergebnis war eine Eule aus Kronkorken im Sinne des Upcyclings. Eine schöne Dekoration für Casa Búho.
Friday was my last day at the project, and we spent an incredibly beautiful day at the beach that I couldn’t have imagined any better. There were some snacks, and we all played together in the waves, no matter big or small. The children and Valeria gave me an incredibly beautiful farewell, which was very hard for me because I am going to miss them all immensely. I’m already looking forward to seeing them again in 1 or 2 years when I come to visit the project. Until then.

Am Freitag war mein letzter Tag im Projekt und wir verbrachten einen unfassbar schönen Tag am Strand, den ich mir nicht hätte schöner vorstellen können. Es gab ein paar Snacks und wir tobten alle gemeinsam in den Wellen, egal ob Groß oder Klein. Die Kinder und Valeria haben mir einen unfassbar schönen Abschied bereitet, der mir sehr sehr schwer fiel, denn ich werde sie alle riesig vermissen. Ich freue mich schon darauf, sie in 1-2 Jahren wiederzusehen, wenn ich das Projekt besuchen kommen. Bis dahin, in Liebe. Laura.
