Story Marathon - Quito

Casa Búho visits the most important children's literature event in Ecuador, discovering new books, an online bookstore, and an illustrated notebook artist.

Casa Búho visited the most important event in the country centered around children’s literature. And the truth is it was a super pleasant experience. One more year (because this is the eleventh edition), the Palacio de Cristal, in Itchimbia, brought together many people passionate about reading to give them a space where they could share the enthusiasm that books generate — the good ones, of course! Writers and all-around authors read almost nonstop throughout all the hours of the Marathon. Story after story… There were also fantastic booths where the literary selection was a delightful surprise. Where you want everything and truly go a little crazy. We discovered an online bookstore project. They are owls passionate about reading, just like us hehe. They are called Librería en línea El Búho. Fernando and his family (wife and one of their children) are behind this new alternative for book lovers. Their selection is very diverse when it comes to children’s literature. Titles that you can hardly find in chain bookstores. Additionally, they assure that if a customer has a special request, they will try to help them get it.

Strolling through the Palacio de Cristal, we came across an artist. She is Vanessa Jaramillo and she turns notebooks into works of art. Her illustrated notebooks open our eyes to our culture and its diversity. We liked them all, but we had to choose just one this time. Her project is called Honrarte.
