Casa Búho shares a curated list of children's music artists and channels to sing, dance, and learn at home during quarantine.
At Casa Búho we love music and we believe it is an essential part of boosting the development and skills of our children. We sing to learn and to be happy. When you enter our space, we always try to offer background music when they read freely, when they are creating a work of art, or when they play.
In the midst of this quarantine, we have decided to share with you a small list of children’s artists or content channels that offer an alternative for singing and dancing at home with the family. The platforms to access these recommendations are YouTube and Spotify.
PIM PAU is an Argentine/Brazilian art and education project for children. It places play at the center of its activities. A proposal for children that invites them to play through art and to learn through play. We are fascinated with this group of educators and artists. We love their songs, but during this quarantine our favorite is: ‘Los opuestos’ a game-song. You can also find Pim Pau on Spotify.
Ola Maya is a singer and songwriter from Guayaquil who makes children’s music. Her songs encourage children to connect with reality and learning. This artist is one of Casa Búho’s favorites — we know the lyrics to almost all her songs and we always start dancing whenever we listen to her. The song that has become a hymn for us is: ‘Amarillo’. Another one we sing together and really enjoy is the song: ‘Las frutas’. Maya’s music is very focused on caring for and respecting nature, and that really connects us to her art.
Vuelta Canela is a group of musicians from Argentina and Mexico who make music for kids. The members of the group represent an idea that is present in each of their songs, melodies, and shows, and it has to do with spinning, rolling, traveling, and playing through music. Our favorite is: ‘Golpeteo’. We encourage you to join the choreography of this beautiful song-game.
Dúo Karma is formed by Cuban musicians Xóchitl Galán and Fito Hernández. It stands out for being a comprehensive project that combines musical, audiovisual, and literary creation. It is distinguished by the delicacy of its lyrics and imagery, the rhythmic treatment of Fito’s guitar, and the warm vocal timbre of Xóchitl.
Canta Maestra is an educational project based in Lima, Peru that seeks new ways to make the teaching-learning process effective, using singing and play. It can also be heard on Spotify and our favorite is: ‘Buenos días’. and ‘Congelados’ — this last song is super cool for playing and you don’t need much space to have fun.
Next, we suggest two content channels designed for the littlest ones. Super Simple Songs is a collection of original kids’ songs and classic nursery rhymes made SIMPLE for young children. Combining captivating animations and puppets with delightful music that kids love to sing along to, Super Simple Songs makes learning simple and fun! Toobys is fun and educational content for children up to 5 years old. Videos with original songs and children’s classics. Their goal is for children to be entertained while also learning numbers, colors, shapes, and other topics of interest.
And before we end this post, we leave you with two playlists we really enjoy. Baby Lullaby Renditions is a list of more than nine hours of soft music featuring covers of great bands like Queen, Aerosmith, The Police, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles. Peaceful Guitar, on the other hand, is a playlist where the guitar is the main star. These two options can be great for moments of relaxation, rest, or concentration.
Part of the texts about each artist’s biography were taken directly from their official profiles, and the published photos as well.
