Dinosaurs at Casa Búho

In the month of February, we will be exploring a brand new topic for everyone at Casa Búho: dinosaurs, these incredible animals that never cease to amaze and spark the curiosity of the vast majority of children. Over these four weeks, we will work on various facts and important aspects of the life, development, and extinction of the species. We will publish our activities weekly so you can also try them at home. Don’t miss our updates!

We started by chatting with the little ones about what they already knew or imagined about dinosaurs. There were lots of questions, and the facts we shared left some of them with their mouths wide open. We love seeing how they learn! During ‘Creativity Hour,’ Trish, our Peace Corps volunteer from the United States, gave a guided drawing class and showed step by step how to make a dinosaur. We drew three types: T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus.

Draw, erase, draw, erase again :) At Casa Búho, we always tell our little ones: keep at it until you’re happy with the result!

With the ‘Baby Búhos,’ we had a sensory and artistic activity. The mothers and one owl dad painted their children’s little feet and on a sheet of paper, they stamped their footprints to form a dinosaur. Then they decorated it and off to play…

  • ‘Playtime.’ The learning laboratory.

This week, during our regular visit to the community of San Isidro, we were lucky to have the wonderful company of our friends from Clara Luna and volunteers from the Canadian organization Solidarite Sud, who performed a puppet show adapted from the book by Colas Gutman, ‘What Is a Child For?’ We also read a loooot :) It was so beautiful, thank you so much!

Throughout the week, we kept learning about dinosaurs and played a question-and-answer game — it was fun! Together with our volunteers Silvie and Magella from the organization Solidarite Sud, we also made a dinosaur that could stand on its own. What a lovely activity!

  • Who wants to give their answer?

  • Step by step, we built our dinosaur.

And we ended the week with a super artistic project, where the little ones relaxed and set about creating the silhouette of their favorite dinosaur against a beautiful sunset. Spectacular! Notice how each one has their own style and details.

  • Pure art.

Other activities:

Lily, a Peace Corps volunteer from the United States who has been helping us at Casa Búho for several weeks, created a new system for storing and classifying our precious books. It was a long morning of inventory and organization, and now the challenge is to teach our little ones to put the books back in their place. Thank you so much, Lily! :)

Books, beautiful books.

And also this week, we received training from the Peace Corps, led by Haley Neary, who spoke to us about how to form a gender club to empower boys and girls, help them get to know themselves, strengthen their self-esteem, aim for leadership, and broaden their horizons. It was a space for discussion, learning, and exchanging ideas, and now we have a lot of material to read and apply in our own communities based on their specific needs.

Don’t forget that our #TodosporCasaBuho campaign is still active :) Here’s the link: https://www.hazvaca.com/campaign/todos-por-casa-buho/1299
